Robusta coffee is harvested when the cherries turn bright red and fully ripe. Farmers usually handpick to ensure only the best quality cherries are collected.
After harvesting, the coffee cherries are washed to remove dirt and impurities. They are then sorted by size and ripeness to improve quality.
Depending on the method, coffee is either sun-dried whole (dry process) or depulped and fermented to remove the mucilage (wet process). This step separates the beans from the fruit layers.
The beans are sun-dried or mechanically dried until they reach about 12% moisture content. Proper drying ensures long-term storage and prevents mold growth.
Once dried, the coffee beans go through hulling to remove the parchment or remaining husk. They are then cleaned to eliminate defects and prepare for grading and export.
The beans are graded based on size, weight, and appearance. Each batch is assessed to meet specific quality standards before proceeding to the next step.
The green beans are packed in suitable materials such as jute bags or vacuum-sealed packaging. They are stored in cool, dry conditions to preserve freshness and flavor.
